Before it leaves your hands.

Protect before exposure. Verify after. Steganosaur records your work while it is still in your hands, and later checks what comes back against that record.

Something you made.

A photograph. A track. A film, document, archive, model or piece of code. Right now, the source file is still with you. This is the cleanest moment to record what exists before copies begin to travel.

A recording

Record what exists.

Before the work leaves your hands, Steganosaur records its exact digital identity. Change even the smallest part and that identity changes with it. The file itself can stay on your machine.

Keep the evidence.

The record stays in your Wallet as a reference to the exact file you recorded. Copies can travel, change or disappear. The evidence you created remains unchanged.

Publish the copy.

For supported formats, Steganosaur prepares a publication copy linked back to the work you recorded. Your source stays untouched. The copy carries an open provenance statement that travels with it. The record in your Wallet remains the anchor.

Once it leaves your hands.

Publication changes files. Copies are reposted, compressed, cropped, renamed and separated from the context they left with. Their provenance statement may disappear along the way. The record in your Wallet remains the fixed reference for what you recorded.

Verify what comes back.

Bring back a file and choose the record you want to check it against. Steganosaur can test whether the bytes match the recorded file, whether the record is correctly signed, and, where a publication copy was linked to its source, whether that signed relationship checks out. Each result answers a specific question. None establishes authorship or ownership.

Publication copies today, each within narrow limits: images, recordings, some video, and PDF 1.x, ZIP and glTF files. Source code can be recorded and compared. It gets no publication copy.
